Copywrong
Unfortunately I did not enjoy our last class very much. We started listening to Linda Smith talk about 2nd Life which seems interesting but I did not feel like I was absorbing any of what she was presenting us with. I will understand the nuances of 2nd Life when I play around with it a little bit. It was fairly boring but class got a little better when we started discussing copyright infringement and all that goes on when using "somebody's ideas". It is such a gray area and is extremely frustrating for a student who is trying to put a project together or write something factual. I believe that you should give credit where credit is due to a certain extent. Using logos and icons can be a messy proposition if you do not get the proper approvals which could lead to empty pockets after a law suit. IS IT EVEN WORTH IT? Frustrating is the only thing I can really say about this whole mess - Frustrating !!!!

Only a few porters could stir up some life into the morose world of copyright laws
ReplyDeleteMaybe all this talk about copyright will encourage everyone to create original things! Then copyright is not an issue. Congrats on your nephew.
ReplyDeleteI do think that frustrating is the right word for the emphasis put on copyright issues, and I think it is ridiculous how many restrictions are put on logos, icons and other things, making it almost impossible to incorporate things into you work without making it seem like you were stealing them from someone else. However, I do agree with professor when she says that all these copyright issues may actually benefit us and encourage people to open up their minds and create their own work and be original.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony too, but let's come back down to earth for a second. The whole point of the internet is expediency, right? Do we all have the time to produce our own, copyright free, technically proficient photographs or illustrations every time we're called upon to produce something digitally? Oh, and produce our own musical compositions, too, right? How about we write our own html code, too?
ReplyDeleteThere are occasions when creativity and ingenuity is called for, but when you have 5-6 20 page projects flying at you simultaneously, expediency trumps creativity every time.
Oh that we lived in a world where we had the time and the means to be original and creative. Cue up that Coke jingle now.....
