Don't Feel So SMART*

Holy Canoli !!!!!!! SmartBoards are A M A Z I NG. After playing around with the SmartBoard today I feel that there is so so SO much to learn. This was the first time that I ever used a Smartboard before and they are truly as amazing as they are hyped up to be. I think that like anything - practice makes perfect but I can see how many awesome activities can be done with a class using a SmartBoard. The possibilities are endless and I look forward to playing around with the software when I create a mini-lesson for our homework assignment. I wonder how many of my teacher friends use them? I will surely be finding that out. I know that they are rather costly but when I become a teacher I need to have one. I would even pay out of pocket to get one if I had to.

  1. Out of pocket? Big spender! I'd just harass the school... Anyway, yeah the possibilities are endless with this contraption. Truly amazing thing, and I'm so happy I got the chance to use it. Now, when they put a SMARTBoard into my observation class, I can teacher the teacher the basics! Hehehe.

  2. I'm with you on this one marc. The SMARTboards are truly amazing and most effective for visual or hands-on learning. The possibilities are endless with this sort of interactive educational delivery system. This technology would be great for Math, allowing students to visualize the problem solving process and even play it back for extra effect.

  3. Am I the only person not buying into the SMARTBOARD hype? School districts are paying thousands of dollars for what is simply a whiteboard and a computer hooked up to a projector. Maybe I'm jaded because I'm used to my science teachers using actual demonstrations. things go boom, I feel heat, colors change. Things you just don't get with a smartboard.

I mean, school's are already spending thousands of dollars for my lab, I think I've got enough cool gadgets to play with without buy into the smartboard hype.

  4. Good luck with the SMARTBoard, I saw HS Math and thought you might want to see the new Math Notebook (apply for it when it comes out in Beta) at: http://surveys.smarttech.com/checkbox/Survey.aspx?s=3de46b60cf194e26bbca4bd77f064a57
I also get value in the smartboardrevolution.ning.com Ning group. Good luck with everything.

  5. I got a Smart Board 5 years ago.

Best teaching tool ever. And I'm a science teacher (to offset TheMintzerofOz).

The smart board can't replace your demos, but it offers so many possibilities to support student learning both in and out of class.

Currently I wear a blue-tooth wireless mic and (using the Smart Notebook software) record my entire lecture. It records a video of everything that occurs on the smart board, and my voice overlay.

So many students end up not in class for legitimate reasons such as sports, illness, etc. But that's probably in the 'advanced' section. Simply having the ability to save your off-the-cuff writings and notes from year to year, or export to the students daily, was my first use in my first year with the Smart Board.

    Get one.

    Cheers,

    Ron
